FSC forest management standards include the protection of resource and water quality, prohibit the cutting of ancient forests, prevent the loss of natural forest cover and prohibit the use of highly toxic chemicals. In addition, FSC requires forest managers, in public as well as private areas, to involve members of local communities in decision-making processes, ensuring that their voices are an integral part of the certification process.
